Supervisor, Entertainment (Creative Services & Design Shop Supervisor)

Creative and Theming Services is a division of the Entertainment Department at SeaWorld San Diego and Sesame Place San Diego. This talent team of graphic designers, sign fabricators, and scenic craftspersons provides for the creation, facilitation, installation, and maintenance of the visual and aesthetic components for both parks. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Manager of Entertainment Workshop with the design of park-wide signage, scenic, theming, and visual support by ensuring all assets meet the brand and art direction guidelines. This role is responsible for the visual appearance and function of the theming, scenic, and signage elements used in productions, operations, animal presentations, events, and other annual/reoccurring entertainment offerings at both parks.

•Provide supervision of the graphic design workshop ambassadors.
•Oversee and assist with the design of all year round and seasonal signage and scenic elements for park shows, attractions, special events, and general operations.
•Manage all design systems and procedure, working files and digital assets, equipment, and compliance.
•Manage administrative duties including inventory, budget, schedules, timelines, archives and work orders.
•Labor management, including but not limited to, establishing, and maintaining line schedules, authorizing position requisitions, monitoring labor expenses in correlation to revenue, and ensuring accuracy of ambassador’s payroll records.
•Maintain team member performance ensuring appropriate team member training, providing formal and informal feedback on performance, and making recommendations related to progressive discipline.
•Collaborate with event and show producers, corporate designers, technical teams (lighting, audio, visual, etc.), entertainment managers, senior leadership team, and other stakeholders to establish a cohesive plan and designs that meet their needs.
•Consult the departmental production calendar and note all due dates. Review work load and new requests to establish prospective deadlines for requests, feedback, and approval processes.
•Organize projects and manages status sheet on a daily basis. Documents project hours and revisions.
•Record, document, and organize core elements of major design projects such as specs (colors, fonts, size, materials), digital assets, working files, print ready files, photo documentation of completed items.
•Develop and follow style guides, color elevations, and DNA sheets as a brand steward.
•Collaborate with Theming Services and corporate designers to oversee the fulfillment of design requests.
•Prepare creative briefs for cost estimates and bids and collaborate with vendors for outsourced projects.
•Attend or coordinates production meetings, as needed.
•Other duties as assigned by leadership.


What it takes to succeed:
•Four years or more of combined professional experience in a leadership capacity, as a project manager, lead designer, shift or team leader, or similar.
•Experience in graphic design, scenic/set design, or sign design with a knowledge of design principles, print production, and sign production preferred.
•Preferred experience in or sound understanding of carpentry, architecture, drafting, sketching, textures, materials, fabrication, technical theatre (lighting, sound), entertainment, and/or theme parks.
•Ability to read, prepare, or create working drawings, construction documents (plans/blueprints), and/or print ready art files for the sign printers, fabricators, and craftspersons.
•Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and Acrobat Professional.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint) and able to use both a PC and Mac.
•Ability to translate creative concepts into renderings and instructions for fabrication.
•Strong communication and organizational skills.


What else is important:
•Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Able to successfully complete all legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines.
•Ability to effectively lead, work well on a team and accept feedback from others while maintaining a positive attitude.
•Comfortable working under deadline situations with changing priorities with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
•Ability to positively interact with park guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language and individuals with special needs.
•Willingness to modify schedule periodically and with advanced notice to support major instillations, special event, and park operations; this may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
